This two volume collection includes treaties and conventions on trade and navigation dating back to the seventeenth century, including early nineteenth-century treaties on the slave trade. Countries included in the collection are: Austria, the 'Barbary States' (North Africa), France, Madagascar, the Netherlands, Persia, Portugal, Russia, Sardinia, Seven Islands, Sicily, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the United States. Most of the treaties are printed in alternate page dual language editions. The February 1815 Congress of Vienna 'Declaration of the Powers on the abolition of the Slave Trade' is printed in English and French, vol. I, 8-13. The 1817 'Convention [...] for the purpose of preventing their Subjects from engaging in any illicit Traffic in Slaves' between Britain and Portugal is printed in English and Portuguese, vol. II, 81-123, and the 1817 'Treaty between Great Britain and Spain for the Abolition of the Slave Trade' is reproduced in Spanish and English, vol. II, 272-309. Volume one also contains an 1817 treaty between Britain and Madagascar outlawing the slave trade (354-56).
